please read the README before asking questions

Imagine opening an issue saying "it doesn't work" when the solution is right there in the README... 🤦‍♀️

❌ Don't do this

2:15 PM Alice
Hey, the project isn't working
2:20 PM Bob
Did you read the README?
2:21 PM Alice
Oh, there's a README?
2:21 PM Bob
🤦‍♂️

This happens way too often. The maintainer spent time writing documentation that:

  • Explains how to install the project
  • Lists all dependencies
  • Shows common troubleshooting steps
  • Provides example configurations

Yet people skip straight to asking questions or filing issues!

✅ Do this instead

Hi! I followed the README's installation steps but got stuck at the database setup. The error says "Port 5432 already in use" - any ideas?
2:16 PM Bob
Thanks for checking the README first! Try the troubleshooting section - there's a note about changing the port if 5432 is taken.

Found it, works perfectly now. Thanks!

When you read the README first:

  • You might solve your problem immediately
  • If you still need help, you can ask specific questions
  • Maintainers are more likely to help
  • Everyone saves time and stays happy! 🎉

Remember: The README exists for a reason!
